Keep a useful key history

An owner or staff change can leave uncertainty about duplicates even when the lock operates smoothly. Record the keys that have been returned and the entrances they open. Explain whether you want a particular door to use a different key, or whether several compatible locks need to be considered together during a rekey assessment.

Do not make that inventory a reason to alter hardware yourself. If one key works poorly while another works normally, mention the difference. If the entire door is difficult to close, say that too. A request about who may enter should retain any information about how reliably the existing entrance operates.

Respect the actual property scope

Describe the result you need

If an old key should stop working, make that outcome explicit. If the entrance binds or does not secure, describe the operational fault as well. Ask which part of the proposed work addresses each problem. Retaining existing hardware may be an option in some cases, but compatibility and condition need checking before a remedy is confirmed.
